Tracking Outbound Links

Posted on September 16th, 2009 by Jaden

Google Analytics offers a great tool to manually track your outbound links. It’s always beneficial to see how users are navigating through your website and the ability to track the outbound links they click is also helpful.

Tracking outbound links can be used for several purposes. If you offer a web advertisement on your site then this could be used to determine how many clicks it received. Unfortunately determining what the user does after that would be turned over to the analytics of that website.

Outbound tracking can also be used to determine popular trends in your website content. Even though its taking visitors away from your own content, new data from outbound links can always be helpful for future marketing campaigns.

View the instructions for implementation.

To analyze the data collected, you can find it under the Top Content section of Google Analytics.
